We’re proud to support Stepping Stones, a Norwich-based charity that empowers adults with learning disabilities to live more independently and confidently. Giving Days has provided a grant of £4,169 to fund the installation of a new lean-to greenhouse, helping to transform their outdoor area to create an inclusive and accessible garden space.

The new greenhouse is central to their vision of creating an inclusive garden and allotment area. This dedicated space will be a sanctuary for enhanced well-being, mitigating stress and anxiety through the therapeutic engagement with nature and the purposeful act of cultivation. It allows year-round growing of vegetables and flowers, contributing directly to the on-site cookery programme, where students prepare healthy meals using what they grow.

Hannah Faye and Eleanor from Stepping Stones said: “Our new greenhouse is a solid structure that is bigger than anything we have had before and helps us to make a natural environment to grow flowers and vegetables. It attracts insects and butterflies and is handy when we want to store and protect our plants while they grow. The greenhouse is a place where we can learn all about growing different kinds of things we can use in our kitchen and make delicious lunches. We love it.”

Stepping Stones supports 28 adults with a range of learning disabilities and mental health challenges. Nature and outdoor activity play a key role in their approach, with gardening offering therapeutic benefits, reducing anxiety, and encouraging practical skills and teamwork.
