Giving Days supports The Hamlet with funding for a new accessible roundabout

We’re proud to support The Hamlet Charity, a Norwich-based organisation that provides vital support to children and young people with disabilities and complex health needs. Giving Days has awarded a grant of £8,700 to fund a new accessible roundabout called the ‘Ability Whirl’ at their Children’s Service centre on Johnson Place in Norwich city centre.

Outdoor play is an essential part of The Hamlet’s approach to supporting physical, emotional, and social development. Their previous roundabout had become unsafe and outdated after years of use, and the team had been actively fundraising for a replacement. With Giving Days’ support, a brand-new Ability Whirl has now been installed, giving children of all abilities a safe, fun, and inclusive space to play.

Jayne Buckingham, Children Services Manager at The Hamlet Charity, said: “We at The Hamlet Charity are absolutely thrilled with the generous donation received from Giving Days that helped to allow us to install a new roundabout, or ‘Ability Whirl’ in the outside play area of our Children’s Service centre based at Johnson Place in Norwich city centre. The old one was in dire need of replacement, so a few months ago we started a fundraising campaign for a new one. Giving Days stepped up to the plate, and within a few months, a new roundabout was installed for our children. As you can see from the pictures, it is a great hit. No more rusty sections or creaking foot plates for the little ones! We are so delighted, and so are the children. A huge thumbs up to Giving Days for helping us to support our young users with their outside play sessions.”

The Hamlet enriches the lives of children and adults with disabilities and complex health needs, working with 400+ families annually in Norfolk. Since 1972, they have evolved from a toy library to a high-quality specialist service for individuals and families, from birth onwards, across three specialist locations in Norwich.
