We are proud to support The Wellspring Family Centre, a community hub in Dereham, Norfolk, dedicated to improving wellbeing and providing activities for people of all ages. Giving Days has provided a grant of £1,922 to fund a new pool table trolley and two upright freezers, helping the centre make the best use of its space and resources.

The new pool table trolley allows the table to be used in Wellspring’s Well-come programme for people recovering from mental illness, as well as youth and community groups. It can then be easily moved aside when the hall is needed for other activities such as dancing, toddler and baby sessions. Around 30 to 40 people each week will benefit directly from this improvement.

Two new upright freezers have replaced an old, energy-inefficient chest freezer. With better shelving and storage, food for Wellspring’s food hub, community groups, and events can now be stored safely and efficiently. This ensures supplies are well organised, reduces waste, and enables the centre to make the most of larger food donations, benefitting around 50 to 60 service users each week.

Denise from The Wellspring Family Centre said:

“We are a small charity trying to make the most efficient use of the space we have. The new pool table trolley allows the pool table to be used in our mental health recovery group, in youth groups and for local community groups, and then moved to the side of the hall when it is being used by other groups like the dancing group, toddlers and baby groups. A lot of people who use the hall are not strong enough to move the table without the trolley, so it is good news all round. Until we were given funds to buy two new freezers from Giving Days, we were relying on an old chest freezer. Some staff could not even reach the bottom of it and everything was thrown in and disorganised. There was also limited usable space and a lot of wasted capacity. We now have two upright freezers with shelves. Everything is organised and stored for our food hub, other groups and events. Also we now have space to take advantage of food offers and giveaways because we can freeze things for use later. Therefore when we have the opportunity of larger offers we can take them and pass on these savings to our customers, the local community. Money from Giving Days has enhanced our service on so many levels. We and our community are very grateful.”

With these improvements, Wellspring can continue to provide a welcoming, accessible space that brings people together and supports the local community.
